Pharmacy first is a scheme which allows people with certain minor ailments and conditions to go straight to their pharmacists to receive a consultation and treatment without needing to visit their GP to get a prescription first. The purpose of this service is to allow patients to access self-care and advice including the supply of some prescription only medicines from a pharmacy as an alternative location to visiting their GP.
Patients who receive free prescriptions will be entitled to the medications for free, if you pay for prescriptions you will still need to pay the NHS prescription fee.
